Building the everyday wardrobe
A capsule wardrobe is not a uniform. It is a small set of pieces that get out of your way so you can think about something else.
People talk about capsule wardrobes as if they are an aesthetic choice. They are not, really. A capsule is a logistical decision — fewer pieces, chosen more carefully, doing more work each. The look is a byproduct.
We tend to start with three things: a pair of trousers that holds a crease without fuss, a knit that layers under a jacket without bulking, and a coat that handles the worst weather you will see this year. Everything else is variation around those three.
The mistake most of us make is buying for the day we want to have, not the days we actually have. A wardrobe that works on Tuesday at 7am is the one that will save you on Saturday at 6pm. Start with Tuesday.
We design for that. The pieces we put into circulation are pieces we would want to reach for ourselves on a long week. The test is repetition: would you wear this twice in a row and not feel exposed? If yes, it makes the cut.
